Three Sad Stories of the Ugliest Cars

Fiat Multipla (2000–2005)

The Fiat Multipla was a reimagining of the rear-engined Fiat 600 Multipla minivan from the 1950s. In the 1990s, riding the wave of successful new models, Fiat decided to create a compact minivan to compete with the Renault Megane Scenic. Designers developed an unusual body just 4 meters long, featuring a three-seat front row and a high roof. Despite positive reviews from journalists and even an exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, sales were low. A facelift introduced a more conservative design, but it didn’t improve the situation. In the end, the Multipla became a regular feature in rankings of the ugliest cars.
